The History of Mastodon's Hashtags
Let me describe why #hashtags are vital within the #Mastodon universe.
When Mastodon first launched, the creator filtered the search to only have results that had keywords with #hashtags.
The creator was doing this to combat #harassment and #trolls which is seen A LOT on #twitter #yuck; furthermore, more hashtags along with a high text limit of 500 allows users to effectively toot new ideas, interests, etc. for #users on the #Mastodon network.
