I just emailed my to @switter on the updated code of conduct.

My request is simple on paper: use OAuth to set up a separate site for reviews that requires a "review code" from a provider. Don't have a code? Can't review that provider (makes it easier for providers to prevent reviews if they don't want them).

The same system could also be used for providers to OK clients to help with screening.

Make sure to provide AssemblyFour with your feedback too! switter.at/web/statuses/999175

@dokuclock @switter I’ve been chatting with a few people about a “post reviews verification system”, it all currently centers around a web of trust idea.

I would disagree with developing something new to service an outdated behavior

@MistressEmelia @switter I'd also rather not see reviews. If we have to have them a Web of trust structure would also work and can also still be applied for both sides of the fence 🙂

My main reason for wanting it on a separate site rather than on switter is a safety measure: If the liability of reviews becomes too great in the future, it'll be easier to nuke and prevent new ones by keeping the reviews on a separate site.

@dokuclock @switter true, but we could also then just find all the statuses with the “review” or “reviews” hashtag and delete them too

@MistressEmelia @switter Yes, that is possible, but I have two concerns with that approach:

1. It will lead to false-positives deleting non-review toots
2. It will encourage the habit of reviewing via toots, which will be harder to squash once established in the event AssemblyFour needs to stop reviews in the future

Hopefully I'm not coming off argumentative, just want to share my thoughts. I want switter to stick around, love this place 🙂

@dokuclock @switter actually, we already have tools In mastodon to prevent the usage of certain hashtags.

@MistressEmelia @switter I wasn't aware of that, that's cool :) I still feel there are reasons to want to keep them out of switter (keeps them off here, will make providers who don't want them happy, less moderation overhead by requiring a "review code") but I also realize that I am asking for development cycles so understand if AssemblyFour decides it isn't worth it. It's just my idea to protect those who don't want anything to do with reviews while allowing them for those who still want them.

@dokuclock @switter yeah, I’m firmly in the camp of no reviews, but understand the cultural inertia behind them, so having a policy in place whilst discouraging them is a good move, in my opinion

@MistressEmelia @switter Yup same. Did it once when just getting started because I thought "I had to". Left a bad taste in my mouth and never done it since. I am glad that switter is making it part of their policy to discourage them.
