If we want to be, well not blocked and banned to start with, but not just tolerated, but accepted and even welcomed as the vibrant positive community, then we should all try to make sure we use the features available to us to control the release of that content
Yes we want to make it as widely available as possible - to those who want to see it. And that means working with those other Mastodon instances to ensure our content is not forced on those who DONT want to see it.
This opens Switter content to other separate instances of Mastodon and necessitates the use of 'sensitive content' settings, content warnings and common sense.
Its not about censorship - you can post whatever you want.
Its about allowing others to decide whether they want to see what you are posting.
Content may be accessible to Mastodon users outside the Switter community.
There seem to be some people not getting the HUGE difference between Twitter and Mastodon (the platform behind Switter)
On Twitter you have to follow someone to see what they have tweeted/retweeted appear on your timeline.
That is the 'Home' column on Mastodon.
Mastodon has an additional feature that Twitter doesn't have - the timelines, especially the federated one.
The good news? As a side effect of both my enquiries and of Switter’s, Exoscale is working on a change to their TOS to allow use by sex workers & pornographers (to my knowledge) — for Unobvious Technology I was able to get an exemption from the previous terms that weren’t necessarily sex worker friendly. (I can’t speak for Switter here, but I imagine it’s the same deal)
It might sound crazy that it’s taken something like 6 weeks from initial enquiries to switch, but there was a LOT of behind the scenes work involved, particularly getting good contracts to ensure Switter was allowed to use Exoscale.
Here is the new Code of Conduct. In short:
- No reviews
- No affiliate links
- No posting on behalf of any other party without consent.
- No explicit language or acronyms to refer to specific sexual services within listings
So recently I've been getting a lot of gentleman contacting me who are interested in booking. I keep hearing this concern about them being older (60+ years old). Is this a thing now? I thought most girls /preferred/ to see gentleman 40+?
Gentlemen and ladies, for the record, your age isn't a concern to me; I don't care about physical attributes. I care about good human beings. THATS what turns /me/ on.
Heads up, sex workers, allies & 1st Amendment advocates: the sleazebags behind #FOSTA are butthurt that everyone sees their tyranny for what it is and they're preparing for a major PR offensive to convince people that censorship isn't censorship.
@cdf_lover I think many of us providers feel that way. While I love testimonials & shout outs. That whole rating system & what not was horrible. I saw some of the rules that TER put in place for guys to give you an 8 or 9. It was like TER almost was requiring me to be spit roasted in order to get a ranking that a guy felt I diserved in his opinion. I’d like to see the hobby completely steer away from giving a grade system on human beings
For me, personally, and as a client, if #switter becomes littel more than an advertising and review board (and I'm beginning to feel its unfortunately heading that way), then I would not feel comfortable here.
I realise that's a personal opinion, wont be supported by all, especially those who have come from boards with a strong review culture, but its not something I feel comfortable being part of.
While I don't personally believe in reviews at all, I can see that some want them. BUT even with the controls suggested in the policy for discussion - assuming they could be adequately policed - I really don't believe the main switter board is the right place for reviews.
IF reviews are to be part of switter, then a separate review area would (I think) make it easier to police the suggested policy, the consent to be reviewed, the language and protect SWs much better.
